UPDATE
The Appeal Committee raised over $500,000 towards the restoration and conversion
of the Heritage-listed buildings, which are now closed for the next stage of restoration works.
Upon completion of this contract, the venue will re-open in mid 2011 as a small scale arts and community development centre, providing arts, heritage, small meeting and function facilities,
and will provide an intimate setting for performances, presentations and displays.
Grants from the Australian and Victorian Government have also funded the project:
— Heritage Victoria Grant ($250,000)
— Department of Planning & Community Development Community Support Grant ($100,000)
— Australian Government Regional & Local Community Infrastructure Programme ($486,500)
In his opening address Mayor Councillor Jack Wegman said:
"People working together and succeeding in this project shows that
community spirit is alive and well" ...
"This has been an incredible opportunity for Council and our community to work together
to support a project. The community will benefit enormously from the events,
activities and programmes at the Court House for many years to come."
